I was really pleased to see how well kept the zoo was, pathways were clear, and the bathrooms were clean. The zoo seems to have a monorail train but it wasn't running when I visited, but there are other rides. The animal exhibits and enclosures are very well kept, and many are very immersive, such as the crocodile enclosure has a tunnel that goes under the water, giving a view from the bottom of the enclosure. Some the more endangered animals is are the Florida panther, Cuban crocodile, Sumatran tiger, and many more, it's the only I've been to that has the coqui, a tree frog native to Puerto Rico. The zoo has many staples such as lions, rhinos, hippos, alligators, monkeys, zebras etc. The zoo has a large collection of rare and endangered species, from Asia, Africa, South America, Australia, and Florida. The entrance fee is pretty well priced, especially for a zoo this big, it cost less than $25 per adult. Also if you are going in the hotter months, bring sunscreen and water bottles, South Florida's heat and humidity is unforgiving. I was surprised by the size, it's much larger than most of the zoos I've visited, so bring comfy footwear, and a stroller if little ones are visiting with you, there is a lot of walking. When I visited the Miami Zoo, I had a great experience. The zoo was larger than we expected and we spent about 4 1/2 hours walking around and taking photos from 1 animal exhibit to another before visiting the gift shop and leaving. There were several places throughout the zoo where you could buy refreshments or a snack, etc. Throughout the zoo, the most popular animals were all the iguanas running around as well as dozens of squirrels seeking snacks from visitors. It was a mostly cloudy day and wasn't that hot, so the animals seemed a little more active than normal. We did a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes if you go and decide to walk.ĭuring our visit, we saw countless animals from multiple continents and there was a sign there that illustrated the times they were feeding some of the animals as well as zoo keepers giving speeches on various animals in their care. A sign said they discontinued the monorail last year because it was cost prohibitive for the zoo and it was getting difficult to get replacement parts for it. The zoo also offers tram rides lasting 45 minutes and cost $7 for non-members and $6 for members. We bought our tickets and decided we would walk the zoo instead of renting their safari bikes which cost $54 for a small cycle and $69 for a large cycle. The zoo was conveniently located off the turnpike and it wasn't crowded during our visit.
